How long has it been since you went on a vacation? Maybe you’ve traveled domestically, but have you been to other countries recently? Most places such as the EU have had rigid travel restrictions for the past year due to fears of spreading COVID, but with the world calming down we can see the slow easing of these rules to allow us to get back into the swing of things.

Europe is slowly reopening its borders and is set to introduce an EU Digital COVID Certificate which would allow travel through the continent in select locations. Nine countries are already involved in adopting the certificate approach which is slated to be released on the 1st of July. This Summer will be the gateway into more travel and returning to previous habits and activities.

The goal of the Digital Certificate is to minimize the pressure on travelers for repeated testing. When traveling between multiple European countries, you have to adhere to each of their COVID protocols whether it be testing or quarantining. With the certificate providing information such as the holder’s vaccination records, a record of previous infection, and past negative tests, travel should be a lot simpler and less stressful.

EU residents as well as select other countries (such as the US) will be eligible to receive a certificate and more information will be made available soon. The certificate is for both vaccinated and non vaccinated individuals. It simply provides records to show either that you are immunized or show information about recent tests or interaction with the virus. With measures such as this being put in place, you can feel some hope that things are returning to how they used to be.
